Pizza Sugar Cookies

My hubby is a pizza fanatic, so for his birthday we decorated sugar cookies to look like mini pizzas!

It’s a fun treat that doubles as a family activity, when you let the kids decorate their own. But you could also decorate them ahead of time for a special pizza party dessert!

Make your own dough or take a short cut & use a sugar cookie mix like I did.

You will need:

  • Sugar cookie dough
  • Red frosting
  • Dots gummy candies (to make pizza toppings)
  • Granulated sugar (optional)
  • Knife
  • Drinking glass with flat bottom
  • Shredded coconut or white/ivory frosting (to mimic cheese)
  • Other candies optional (brown m&ms or Reese’s pieces “sausage”, black licorice “olives”, etc.)

Ahead of time, cut Dots to look like pizza toppings. Cut red dots into circles, reshaping & flattening as needed to look like pepperoni. Cut green Dots lengthwise to mimic green pepper slices. Then toss them into granulated sugar to keep them from sticking together.

Before you bake your cookies, chill the dough slightly. Then roll the dough into balls or use a cookie scoop. Using a drinking glass,  flatten each cookie gently on an ungreased cookie sheet & bake according to your cookie recipe. While still hot from the oven, use the drinking glass again to press a circle into the center of each cookie.

Let cookies cool slightly on the cookie sheet before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Now you’re ready for the fun part: frosting & decorating your pizzas!

Tip: use the back of a small spoon or offset spatula to apply red frosting “pizza sauce” to the center of your cookie, leaving the outter edge clean to look like a pizza crust. Then add the “cheese” and decorate with your favorite candy “toppings”.

I hope you have fun making these mini pizza sugar cookies! Try out different toppings, like maybe white chocolate shavings for cheese or make fondant toppings!

Thanks for stopping by!
